The Theme of Hunger in the Journal “Kyzyl Kazakhstan”

Abstract

The article deals with the problem of hunger in Kazakhstan in 1921-1922 years. The author studies
the problem of hunger through articles, published in the journal “Kyzyl Kazakstan”. It also tells about the
history and editors of the magazine. The author indicates the causes and consequences of hunger, based
on archival documents, in the materials of a rare fund, periodicals and scientific research. The author determines
the activity of the national intelligentsia during hunger in the Republic of Kazakhstan. It explains the
results of measures taken in the fight against hunger. The article presents the table of the spread of hunger
by regions, published on the pages of the magazine for comparison by readers. According to the data table
in 1921-22, the number of victims of hunger is represented. In a scientific article, the author used information
from the magazine “Kyzyl Kazakhstan”, published in 1922, translated into the script “Cyrillic alphabet”,
and brought to the attention of readers the history of the tragic event – the famine in the Kazakh steppes.
