Consolidating concepts in the Kazakhstans` media discourse

Abstract

Kazakhstan is actively working towards consolidation of society by introducing and updating the concepts that must be understood and ac- cepted by the country’s multi-ethnic population. In this process, an impor- tant role is played by media discourse because the development of civic identity is greatly influenced by consolidating communicative space sup- ported by certain concepts such as the people of Kazakhstan, Mәңgіlik El. The author’s content analysis of the of Kazakhstan’s media discourse has revealed that the basic consolidating concept «Mәngіlіk El» expressing na- tional idea is as a key element in the Kazakh value system that contributes to strengthening of the Kazakh identity.
