Abstract

This study examines the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the development of contemporary journalism and its growing influence on professional journalistic practices. As AI-based technologies become increasingly integrated into different areas of society, their use in the media sector is changing the way news is produced, processed, and distributed. These changes have contributed to greater automation of media production, faster processing of information, and the development of new approaches to journalistic work. In this context, the study focuses on the ways in which AI is reshaping journalism, its contribution to the development of the media industry, and the challenges and risks that may arise from its use.

The purpose of the study is to examine how AI technologies affect the development of journalism, professional practices, and media production processes. Particular attention is given to the development of convergent journalism and international experience in applying AI within news organizations. The study also considers the use of automated journalism, data-driven approaches to news production, and digital content distribution. A SWOT analysis is used to identify the main strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and potential threats associated with these practices. In addition, the study considers the extent to which the use of AI in journalism corresponds to established professional standards and principles of journalistic ethics.

The finding indicates that AI is perceived not as a technology capable of replacing journalists entirely, but rather as a tool that enhances the effectiveness of their professional activities. Although AI optimizes information gathering, processing, and dissemination. The core functions of journalism – including creative thinking, critical analysis, and ethical decision-making – remain fundamentally dependent on human expertise. The study also identifies transformations in the media labor market, changes in the professional roles of journalists, and the evolution of audience engagement practices. Finally, the research defines the distinctive roles of humans and AI in media content production and provides a scientific assessment of the future prospects of AI in journalism.
