Yakut intellectuals and the formation of the periodical press

Abstract

This article considers the Yakut intelligentsia’s activity in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The intelligentsia had influence over the ethnic revival processes and the awakening of national consciousness in Yakutia and other national regions of the Russian Empire, for example, in Kazakhstan. The Yakut intelligentsia has played a crucial role in formation of the independent press, and, especially, in formation of the press in Yakut language, such as the «Sakha Sangata» magazine.
