Abstract

The coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating impact on the public and private lives of people around the planet. For the first time, the media devoted to the single topic – Covid-19 newspapers’ editorials and prime time on the air for a very long time. The demand for information had skyrocketed, and it seemed that the media would only benefit from the hype. However, soon, contrary to expecta- tions, the destructive impact of the pandemic on the media became obvious.

The paper is aiming to consider the peculiarities of the Korean diaspora media, which allowed them to stay afloat amid the pandemic; to examine the challenges faced by print media in the pandemic; analyze the mechanisms of overcoming the encountered problems in the context of global digitalization and technological convergence.

Currently the feasibility of expanding online communication and information exchange has become obvious. The pandemic has clearly highlighted the trends in the transit of public and private life from the off to online world. The paper points to the strategy for the diaspora digital mass media development and gives practical recommendations to ethno cultural associations how to support their virtual com- munication and information network.

The research methodology is based on the main principle of historicism, since the prospect of the formation of online media network of Russian-speaking Koreans in the CIS is substantiated by a retro- spective of the diaspora existence and functioning of its traditional media.

As a result of the study, the relevance of the consolidation of Korean online media in the CIS was substantiated. The author points out that the consolidation of Diaspora media will provide the cuts of expenditures, diversity of content and reinforcement of cultural exchange with the historical homeland. The value of the article lies in the novelty of the approach in the studies of traditional and online media of the Korean Diasporas in the pandemic and quarantine. The lessons obtained in the case study can be extrapolated to the mechanisms of the formation of online networks of other Diasporas in the CIS. The key points of the paper were presented at the international conference of the CIS Korean Di- aspora media (Moscow, 2021) and were approved by all the participants – chief editors of newspapers and moderators of internet resources. Currently a charter document for institutionalization of the Korean
