Herald of Journalism

The journal Herald of Journalism was founded in 1997. The founder and publisher of the journal is Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

 Herald of Journalism is a peer-reviewed open-access academic journal specializing in the publication of fundamental and applied research in the fields of journalism and media communications. The journal serves as an international academic platform for scholars, educators, and practitioners, providing opportunities for the development of media studies, dissemination of research findings, exchange of scholarly information, and drawing attention to the most relevant and promising areas and challenges in media development in Kazakhstan and abroad. The journal is published four times a year.

Herald of Journalism publishes original research articles and review papers aimed at fostering scholarly understanding of fundamental theoretical approaches, conceptual models, and research methods in journalism and mass communication. The journal adheres to high standards of peer review, a rigorous editorial policy, and the principles of open access to knowledge, ensuring academic integrity, transparency, and broad accessibility of published research.

The journal publishes materials on global trends in media development, innovative methods of information delivery, as well as reviews of online tools and new media competencies in the following thematic areas:

  • Issues of mass communication, history of the press, print and broadcast/digital journalism;
  • History and practice of the development of domestic and global publishing;
  • Current state, history, and methodology of public relations;
  • International and national experience in media design and editorial management;
  • Theory and practice of international journalism, including studies of global and local segments of the world media space;
  • Domestic and international journalism and publicistic writing, issues of media law, media literacy, citizen journalism, and social media.
