Abstract

News agencies play an important role in the media space. They are the first to deliver information, which is disseminated only after going through a complex verification process, which is why the audience trusts the agencies. While general trust in the media is declining, and fake news, deepfakes, and disinformation aimed at a specific personal goal are spreading, news agencies are at the forefront of the fight against these trends.

  The purpose of the research is to conduct a content and structural analysis of fact-checking materials from news agencies, to review and determine the significance of fact-checking initiatives.

The scientific significance of the research work was aimed at analyzing the activities of the fact-check.kz, stopfake.kz projects. The article showed that fact-checkers can use various tools and programs in their work, such programs help to identify statements that have grounds for verification, search for all related data in social networks, identify the author of any material.

The research methodology of the article considers the content and structure of fact-checking materials from Kazinform and Reuters agencies, based on a comparative analysis, and determines their significance in the current media space.

The study assessed the consequences of the increasing amount of fake news and disinformation that has become commonplace, and discussed the importance of verifying factual information in the media space.

The practical significance of the scientific work was examined through the content and structure of the material of fact-check.kz, which regularly engages in fact-checking in the media.

Materials and methods: content analysis, comparative analysis, and literature review methods were used in the study.

The article reviews articles that examine the features and effectiveness of the fact-checking process, general fact-checking projects, and analyzes the content of fact-checking materials from Kazinform and Reuters agencies.
