This article examines linguistic issues in Kazakhstan's contemporary information space. Specifically, it examines the functional characteristics of socio-political vocabulary in media texts. The aim of the study is to identify the informational, evaluative, ideological, and discursive functions of socio-political vocabulary and to demonstrate its role in media texts.
The study focused on 383 socio-political articles selected from the national newspapers "Egemen Kazakstan," "Aikyn," and "Zhas Alash," published between 2023 and 2025. The media texts included news, analytical materials, and interviews.
The article utilized methods of content analysis, semantic and conceptual analysis, and discourse analysis. Frequency indices and usage patterns of socio-political vocabulary were determined using Voyant Tools. Quantitative data were combined with linguistic analysis to identify the semantic fields and discursive functions of the lexemes. The results of the scientific study showed that socio-political vocabulary in media materials serves not only as a means of conveying information but also as a mechanism for shaping public opinion, reflecting the relationship between society and the authorities and legitimizing ideological positions. Furthermore, it was established that the frequency of use and functional load of socio-political vocabulary in the three newspapers studied depend on editorial policy and the direction of discourse.
The results of the study allow us to consider socio-political vocabulary as a fundamental structural element of modern media language and make a theoretical and practical contribution to scientific research in the field of media linguistics.
