Abstract

This article presents an analysis of the lexical richness of materials published in Kazakh media. The analysis of the texts was conducted using the BirOtan lex online service, which assesses the lexical quality of the texts and the authors' vocabulary. The study examines the dynamics of changes in the lexical richness of texts published in the newspapers Egemen Kazakhstan, Kazakh Adebiyeti, and Aikyn, as well as posts from social media platforms Facebook and Twitter (currently X) over the period from the 1990s to 2024.

The main hypothesis of the study is that technological innovations and transformations in communication processes negatively affect the lexical richness of the Kazakh language. In particular, a trend is observed towards a reduction in the vocabulary of both the authors and the content itself, leading to a limitation in the diversity of vocabulary in contemporary texts.

The article emphasizes that the use of digital platforms, such as social networks, also contributes to the reduction of vocabulary and the simplification of language. The authors investigate the impact of digital media platforms, particularly social networks, on the reduction of lexical richness in materials, focusing on the mechanisms and factors that contribute to the simplification of language within the context of the modern media environment. The study also analyzes the degree of influence digital media platforms, especially social networks, have on the decline of lexical richness in materials.

The article draws conclusions about the current state of the Kazakh language in the media environment and highlights the need to preserve and develop the language’s lexical fund in the face of rapid technological changes. The research formulates key conclusions and recommendations regarding the role of media platforms in preserving the Kazakh language and developing its lexical fund in the context of the modern information era, while also considering the potential future of the language in the digital age.
